Medical and Pediatric Oncology
At Guru Specialty hospital, treatments chosen for childhood cancers are based mainly on the type and stage (extent) of the cancer. Treatment options may include chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, and/or other types of treatment. In many cases, more than one of these treatments is used.
Children with cancer and their families have special needs that can be best met at Guru Specialty hospital. Treatment of childhood cancer in our hospital is coordinated by a team of experts who know the differences between adult and childhood cancers, as well as the unique needs of children with cancer and their families. This team includes:
- Pediatric oncologists: doctors who specialize in using medicines to treat children with cancer
- Pediatric surgeons: doctors who specialize in performing surgery in children
- Radiation oncologists: doctors who specialize in using radiation to treat cancer
- Pediatric oncology nurses: nurses who specialize in caring for children with cancer
- Nurse practitioners and physician assistants: nurses and other professionals who are specially trained and licensed to practice medicine alongside doctors
